Corporate History

Stevens Cabinet began as a small woodworking shop in Teutopolis, IL, building traditional frame wood cabinetry.  A plant relocation allowed entrance into the commercial/industrial markets with a proprietary cabinet line established for school market applications.

In the 1970’s, additional employees and engineering staff were added, as traditional wood-frame cabinets evolved into cabinets laminated both inside and out.  In 1972, the company abandoned all-wood finished cabinets in favor of laminate-clad frameless casework.  With the frameless cabinets and panel processing, Stevens moved further towards institutional applications.  Stevens Cabinets began producing a full complement of commercial institutional frameless casework, which remains a major portion of the business today.  A 1978 plant expansion added 77,000 square feet of production space, allowing for the 1979 purchase of their first melamine press.  This brought additional production capabilities, allowing the company to enter into new markets as a laminate supplier to the woodworking industry.    A 1979 industry publication mentioned Stevens as “a United States leader in the manufacturing of laminated particleboard,” a reputation that still holds true today.  To reflect the wider capabilities, the corporate name was changed to Stevens Industries, Inc.

In 2000, a fifteenth building expansion brought Stevens to 430,000 square feet of production space on nearly 31 acres.  Stevens employees over 550 people and continues to be locally owned and managed with a substantial ownership by the employees through and employee stock ownership plan.

Since inception, Stevens has not only lived up to, but set the standards of quality products, on-time delivery, competitive prices and customer satisfaction.
